County roads

[Today’s run: 8 miles with Boardtown Runners]

Picture today is of the road to Schaffer’s Chapel.  The road was gravel.  A couple of years ago they put asphalt on it.  But now there are big ruts and heaving spots and they are filling those in with gravel.

So, it is slowly going back to being a gravel road.

I’ve noticed that they like to do 1-3″ asphalt jobs on our country roads.  It is nice to keep the dust down but the roads don’t last very long.  Either the roadbed is unstable or a heavy load causes a break in the pavement.  Then water gets in, the roadbed gets soggy, and the asphalt turns into a paved rut.  Soon it is all broken up into big chunks.
