Tenn-Tom

[Today’s run: 2 miles with wife and dog]

Our house is about 3 miles west of the Tombigbee river.  In 1984 the Tennessee-Tombigbee waterway project was completed, joining the Tennessee river with the Tombigbee.

The Tombigbee flow south,  eventually into Mobile Bay on the Gulf of Mexico.  The Tennessee flows north into the Ohio and that flows west into the Mississippi.  If I had a canoe and a whole bunch of time, I could put it in about 3 miles east of here and go in a big circle by using the Tenn-Tom and the Mississippi.  I could do an even bigger circle by going up to Chicago, through the Great Lakes and back around on the Alantic coast.

Tomorrow I’m going to fly out from the Golden Triangle Regional Airport, about 5 miles west of here, go to Atlanta and then to Denver.

I could drive to Denver by using Highway 82 which travels from the Atlantic on the Georgia coast,  passes within 4  miles of my house,  all the way to  Alamogordo, NM.  Then I would have to go north to finish in Denver.

So you may think that I live in a backwater part of the country and usually I would agree.  But things really aren’t that far away if I feel the need to go somewhere.
