Not Too Hot

[Today’s run: 6 miles]

We really have not yet hit the hot weather here in Mississippi this summer.  Still plenty of time for it to come on.  The six weeks starting July 1st are the real action.

Absolute temps usually aren’t that bad anyway, not like Arizona.  The problem here is that our dewpoint will hang up at about 70-75 degrees.  In the early morning there will be fog because the air temp will get down into that range.    Later in the day we will go up into the mid-90’s and maybe hit 100 (not yet this year).

Running is a challenge, not so much because of the air temperature but that humidity.  If you are sweating and trying to cool your body it is more effective if the perspiration will evaporate off.  In the morning when it is 75 F and 100% humidity there just isn’t much cooling to be had.

I end up processing through a lot of water.  I just drink it down and pump it out.  Someone might think I’ve been perforated like one of those cartoon characters.  A lot of energy, particular heart effort, goes into putting that water out.  So running speeds slow down.

Shade helps.  Breezes help even more.  If you can run fast you make your own breeze.  I don’t.
