More on VHF interference

[Today’s run: rest day]

I did some more work on my interference problem today.

As I noted earlier this week, I’m getting a strong signal on 146.66 MHz.

I had the parts from my old 4-element Arrow antenna, which had been mangled in a fall some time ago.  I also had some old arrows (always good to save old stuff for just such an occasion!).  I patched up the Arrow to make a 3 element yagi out of it.

I got out my old Icom IC-02AT handheld (had to reset the memory) and an old gel-cell battery.  Put the gel-cell in a bag, slung the bag over my shoulder and went outside.

Swinging the antenna around, I discovered that the interference is generated in my house, more specifically, in the parts and feedline associated with my internet service 🙁  .

I tried swapping another router/modem unit in.  But the interference seems to be mostly associated with the ethernet cable which goes out to the tower and up to the internet unit.  The line supports POE  (Power over ethernet).  I’m wondering now if the noise because of the POE.  Regular ethernet cable is pretty well self shielding.

So, more work to be done in the interference department, but progress made.
