[Today’s run: 10.9 miles]
Our neighbors here in Mississippi are nice people but they are very quiet. We live in a rural area and it is our habit to wave at any vehicle on the roads near our house. They wave back.The neighbors have seen us out running on the roads. And we stick out because almost all of the rest of the neighborhood are people that are interrelated. All of them have lived here for a long time.
Today there was funeral at the neighboring house. We had missed the obituary in the newspaper last week. We felt bad that we had not attended the funeral. I went to town and bought a sympathy card and we tucked in a contribution to the memorial fund. I took it over this afternoon and the neighbors were very kind and thankful. I didn’t really know what to say. I don’t know what happened to the deceased, she wasn’t old and I don’t recall hearing about any auto accidents or anything like that. Maybe she had been sick? We wouldn’t know. There are some older folks around, but this was not one of them. A mystery.
So it was a strange day in the neighborhood. I think we at least were able to get across that we were sorry for their loss. They had a lot of people at the house for most of the day. We stayed out of the way and tried to keep the dog from barking at them.
