Vigorous bees

[Today’s run: 5 miles jogging and walking]

My run was a bit off the usual Saturday morning routine.  We decided to sleep in and do our bit near home instead of driving to Starkville.  So, we started out.  I wore some brand new shoes and soon discovered that they weren’t working right for me.  I did some walking while Wife went on ahead.  We got back together on the return trip.  And I’ve boxed up the shoes to go back in exchange for a smaller size.

Another thing we did today, we got into two of the three bee hives.  The bees have been very busy with all of the new flowering plants shooting off in the last couple of weeks.  So we took a bit of winter comb out of one of the hives and left both of them with more frames to fill.

The bees were pretty aggressive.  We probably should have used the smoker.  But the smoker sets off the little fire alarm in their bee brains and they head for the honey to fill up (in case the tree is burning down and they have to camp out for awhile.)  And if we are wanting to take the honey out, well, there is a fundamental cross purposes there.

I couldn’t find both of my regular gloves so I used some that were not quite as heavy.  And the bees got through a few times.  I probably have 4-5 hits in each hand.  But that’s still a lot fewer than what were trying to get through.

The little thorny looking things in the picture are stingers.
