“So Much Blonde”

*Before I get started on this post, credit goes to #1 Son for this title.

Yesterday I drove to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. to meet up with #1 Son.  It was tour day at the University of Alabama and he had invited me to tag along on the tour and see the campus.  It was an…entertaining tour.

I met #1 on at his apartment.  We were kind of crunched for time so we popped in at a little Mexican restaurant for a quick lunch before driving on towards the campus.  We both ate re-fried beans and were hoping that there wouldn’t be any repercussions from that during the tour.  *and I am happy to say we didn’t have any problems from the beans*

Once we arrived at the campus, it started to rain.  We met at the Welcome Center and waited for the rest of the group to arrive.  They had decided to bus us to different locations on the tour instead of walking due to the rain, so we were actually waiting on people and the buses.

Anybody who knows me knows I love to watch people and there were quite a few that piqued my interest right away.  The primary person was a woman.  She was very much a mom sending her first off to college.  Instead of chatting with her daughter and husband (who looked bored to tears!), she was on her phone to somebody criticizing the fact that almost all the girls were wearing pastel shorts.  For some reason this was very important!

Of course, the first thing I did was check to see that color shorts I was wearing!  LOL!!!  *gray*

Soon we piled on the buses and were off on the tour.

I was your typical college campus.  It is a large campus.  Very pretty!

We drove around, all told, about 1.5 hours.  As we were driving, #1 Son was telling me about how you can tell what part of college “life” the students identified with by what they were wearing.  He was pointing out the various “uniforms.”

These are not uniforms like in a high school or anything like that, it’s more of the case of in people’s quest to be different, they dressed all the same.  Go figure.

The one that tickled my funny bone were the sorority type girls.  The signature thing with them was the sparkly Nike shoes that are not used for running.  Those shoes have never been worn on a run.  Ever.  Aside from the shoes there was the hair.  Long. Straight. Hair.

Blonde Hair!

It didn’t matter if you were a natural blonde.  You must have blonde hair.

Thank goodness for Miss Clairol!

#1 Son kept saying, “So much blonde!”

Our bus driver would drive to a building of interest and our tour guide would have her stop.  We would pile off the bus and walk into a building and act impressed.

As we stepped off the bus at the first stop, I noticed our bus driver grab her book and she was reading immediately!  When we returned to the bus, I saw her reluctantly put the book away.  I was curious as to what she was reading.

When we reached our second building, I peeked over her shoulder to catch the title.  When I saw what it was, I about doubled over laughing.  It was just too funny!!!  No wonder she was reading it as soon as she could and grabbing it as soon as we stopped!!!

We finally got to the last building and our tour guide led us through it, extolling the virtues of the school (he had great school spirit!  Good for him!) when we reached the gift store.  We stopped walking there but our guide kept talking.  #1 Son leaned over to me and whispered, “Betcha’ a nickle he ends the tour here so we can go shop.”

I said, “No way!  That’s too obvious!”

As soon as I whispered that to #1 Son, our guide wrapped up the tour!  Hahaha!!!

In all seriousness, it was a very nice tour.  It was great to see the campus because I’ve never been on this campus before.  I was able to see the building where #1 Son would be taking classes and working in his TA position as he works on his Master’s Degree.

Had a great time!

Now, it’s next to impossible to get a pic of this kid of mine.  I gave him plenty of advance notice that we WOULD be taking a selfie while I was over there yesterday.  We were being silly and I was laughing like crazy but~I got #1 Son to crack a smile!  #WINNING
