Best Friends~Paxton and Kali

We have had a particularly hot and humid summer in my part of Mississippi.  It been challenging to be outdoors during the daytime hours.  It has been especially tough on my puppy, Paxton.

Paxton has a difficult time breathing in weather extremes.  If it is super hot, he overheats easily.  If it is super cold, he can’t stay warm enough.  The weather polar opposites give him fits so there are times during the year when he only goes outdoors to do his “Good Boy.”

Paxton and I had been going to walks on a regular basis in the evenings before the weather heated up.  My pampered, pudgy pooch had been walking pretty close to a mile each evening!  That’s a long way for him!

While we were in the habit of our evening walks, we picked up another companion.  Kali.  Our dark colored kitty.  She took it upon herself to tag along on these walks.  I don’t know if she was just coming along for the fun of it or if she was making sure all was well…who knows.  All I know is that each evening when we set out we would soon hear Kali bringing up the rear.

The first time she came along, it was funny!  We were walking on our road and behind us I heard:  “Jingle, jingle, jingle.”

It was the little bell on Kali’s collar.

Then I would hear a breathless, “Mew!”

“Wait for me!  I want to come, too!”

Paxton and I stopped and waited for her to catch up.

As the day’s progressed, Kali became a regular on our walks.  Mind you, if I called her and told her it was time for our walk, she would turn her kitty nose up in the air like she had no idea what I was talking about.  If we didn’t tell her we were leaving she’d be right there tagging along.

What a silly kitty!

The weather is finally cooling off here in Mississippi so last night Paxton and I started our evening walks again.  There was no way he could walk his mile last night.  He was checking out the field at the end of our street.  The cows often are in the field and he likes to go visit them.  They were not there last night.  They were in a field further down the road so Paxton didn’t have the motivation of visiting the cows to keep walking.

We had passed “Mama’s house” when sure enough, behind us I heard, “Jingle, jingle, jingle.”

Paxton and I stopped and looked behind us. There was Kali.  She was moving pretty quick.  She was doing her kitty best to catch up.  She had missed our evening walks!  She had not forgotten about them!

We waited for her.

We made it as far as that first field, the one without the cows, when Paxton decided that was far enough and turned back towards home.

I’d guess those two walked a quarter mile?  Not very far. They had a great time, though!

Best. Friends.
