Today’s Run: 17 miles
We ran for 3 hours and 44 minutes this morning. A Very Long Time!
I never sleep well on nights before a long run. I get all wound up about the run and just do not sleep. So, I called it a lost cause this morning around 12:30. Woke up husband up around 3:00 a.m.~fed both of us and we were out the door by 4:00 and running by 4:30ish.
Due to the fact that I am nursing a sore foot, we are avoiding gravel roads. Unfortunately, the route our running group was taking this morning had a lot of gravel in it so we had to plan a different route, water stops, etc. It was all very do-able and things went off without a hitch (except for that dk pickup truck that aimed at us this morning on S. Montgomery St. About pegged each of us separately!~~Jerk!)
This morning saw us finishing up week 10 and tomorrow begins week 11 of our marathon training. I counted up the days today and there are only 56 days until we toe the line in Bar Harbor, Maine! Yikes!!!
Earlier, say around week 7, I was not ready, emotionally, for the race to get here. That is starting to change. I think I am just about ready, mentally prepared, for this race. I know about the hills. I know we will be running along the Atlantic Ocean coast the entire race. I know all this and now I am almost ready to do it. In My Mind.
My body, however, is not quite there. The longest run I have successfully completed to date is 19 miles. That 19 miler was not pretty. It was a hot (upper 70’s F.) with 90’s % humidity day. Awful running weather. I know that when we get to Maine, I will be freezing to death! I can hardly wait! It will be glorious running weather!
In the next 7 weeks, we have 18, 15, 20, 18, 23 milers and then the taper begins. These next few weeks are going to fly by.
We purchased our airfare for the race this week. Reserved the rental car. (Do you know that it costs more to rent a car than airfare for two adults!?!) We have hotel accommodations. The dog has reservations at the doggie hotel. My son is going to babysit the chickens and the cats…All we have to do is put in the miles!
No Problem!!!
