Family Dynamics

Today’s Run:  50 min lifting at the “Y” and 35 min walking Paxton

We have two grown children.  When they made their bid for independence and moved out, they each got a cat.  They did not purchase a cat, let us make that clear.  My daughter “found” a cat, that cat had kittens and she gave a kitten to my son.  Voila’!  Two cats.

Guess what!?!  They each moved across the country and needed to find new homes for their cats.  Guess what again!?!  We now have two cats. The one cat that was “found” by my daughter and the kitten from that initial cat.  We started out with one dog.  In our family, we now have one dog, two cats, five chickens and five honey bee hives (the average hive has 60,000 bees~I’ll let you do the math).

The dog, the bees and the chickens were my idea.  The cats were not.  We are fortunate that they are “good” cats.  They bring us gifts almost every day!  A dead mouse or every now and then, when they are lucky, a dead bird.  They are hunters, those two.  Every morning we find their offerings on the door mat, we praise them for their mighty hunting prowess and then dispose of the gift when they are not looking.

The dog, oh my goodness, the dog.  Well, he is unique.  He is a Boxer. Mr. Enthusiasm.  The Destroyer. Bozo.  Those are the names by which he is known.  His real name is Paxton and that gets used quite a bit as well as the other names.  They all fit.  Especially, Bozo.

The chickens.  I wanted chickens for the eggs and they are great layers!  But they have turned into pets, too.  When they hear the house door open and close, they run the the end of their run, “Cluck, cluck, cluck!!!”  “What did you bring me to eat!?!”.  They are a lot of fun and I am enjoying them a great deal.

The bees.  Well, they are grouchy.  But you cannot expect bees to be cute and cuddly now, can you?  They produce some awesome honey which we sell at Farmer’s Markets and by word of mouth.  We are organic bee producers.  Raw, unfiltered, 100% organic…good stuff!

That leaves a little bit of room for my husband and myself on our almost two acres of property.  We live in the country, on the Prairie of Mississippi.  We are 12 miles from the Alabama line and two and a half hours North from the Gulf of Mexico.  We enjoy the peace and quite and relaxed ways of living in the South.
