One more time

[Today’s run: 3.2 miles around Equalizer Lake]

Yesterday’s run was really a walk. A very pleasant walk. Today I decided to do it again at my slow running pace. And that worked out fine.

We get a special family rate at a nearby hotel where our son-in-law’s brother works. So that is where we stay when we come out. We have done this running route quite a few times over the last few years.

The lake is part of the local irrigation/water storage scheme. I think I looked it up before and the ownership is the City of Greeley. But I’m not 100% sure of that.

We have been enjoying our visit with our children and grandchildren here. Today was a cookout and some other folks came over and it was a very nice party. Everyone seems to get along well and we have things to talk about, and it is just very pleasant and relaxed and fun.

Driving around in Loveland has been a bit trying. There are more cars than ever. And there is some construction going on which has tripped me up a couple of times. But we are getting where we need to go.

Loveland has nothing on the excitement of driving to the airport in Memphis. As we were approaching the airport turnoff, there was a defective portable sign blocking the right lane with only a couple of useless bulbs on. And there were some very old pylons set up. But low and behold, within the next few hundred feet the right two(!) lanes completely went away (from three lanes down to one). We forced our way to the left and a nice person avoided hitting us from behind. We made it to our turn off. It was the worst signage situation I have ever seen.

Added later:
While driving from the hotel to the house I went through the big main intersection in Loveland, where the DQ is. There was a guy standing on the concrete median with a sign “Will work for food”. I was the first to the red light and traffic was light. (It seems you never can tell about sign people. We have those near where I live and they are more likely to be systematic beggars than to actually need a job or food.)

I saw in my mirror that the guy had spotted a bottle by the median, some litter. He put down his sign and picked it up. Then he trotted over toward DQ but didn’t find a trash can. So then he went across the street westward (4 lanes of traffic) toward some other fast food places, and about that time my light turned green and I drove away.

I would have hired that guy. He saw something that needed done and he did it. I was really impressed!
