Engine hijinks

[today’s run/walk: 3.45 miles around Equalizer Lake in Loveland, Co]

Last Tuesday I helped my neighbor put the 5.3litre Chevy engine, with attached transmission, into the engine bay of his 1968(?) Impala convertible.

We struggled for quite a while but finally got it in there.

We have some issues with the motor mounts not being lined up exactly right. And we have a lot of accessories and things to install.

This is a modern computerized fuel injected engine. There are a lot of things to be sorted out. For example, the gear shift lever will need to talk to the computer, which will then tell the transmission which gear to be in. And the gas pedal similarly will no longer be a linkage to the carburetor but some kind of sensor with signaling to the computer.

So there are a lot of things to be done. But the hunk of metal is in the neighborhood of where it needs to be.
