One of the things I’m keeping an eye on these days is the chocolate vines we have growing on our pergola.
The idea is to get them to grow up to the top and then spread out and make shade for us. We have done pretty well getting them to climb up a string to the top.
The problem comes then to get them to go on over the top. At first I had the strings set up to just go to the rafters. But the vines couldn’t twirl around and get any higher. So I have now set up other support for the strings and cantilevered that above the rafters. The idea is to get it to go above the rafters but below the piece holding the string.
We have a couple of vines that have made the turn but most have not. I think my cantilever idea is going to do the trick but it may take awhile.
