Mississippi Museum of Art

[today’s run 3 miles – the White House]

I took the day off on Tuesday and we drove down to Jackson to see an exhibit of paintings at the Mississippi Museum of Art.  The exhibit was interesting and it was a nice day to be out.

Jackson is an OK place.  I don’t have a lot of experience there.  Usually we drive down highway 25, do our thing (like go to the hamfest at the fairgrounds) and go home.  We got a bit more exposure when we ran the Mississippi Blues half marathon in January which started and ended downtown but looped around to the north and west.

I’m not really a big-city person, so it doesn’t hold a lot of attraction for me as a place to live.  But it has the hospitals, museums, golf courses and other amenities you would expect in a smallish American city.  It reminds me of my hometown, Des Moines, Iowa, but a bit older and poorer. I would have said smaller too, but wikipedia says they are about the same size.  There must be more of Jackson I just haven’t seen.

The MMA is located next to the convention center, on the south end of the downtown district.  It has a nice plaza area with fountains, plantings, etc.
