Typing in the dark

[Today’s run:  1 mile with the dog]

We had another thunderstorm come through this afternoon and it had a lot of lightning.  The power went out and is still out.  No lights and no air conditioning.  Fortunately the laptop still works and the temperature has gone down after the rain went through.  I have my wireless access point on a UPS, so my internet still works.  I also have an old-fashioned telephone without all of the fancy features that require house power.  And I have my blackberry.

My power company is  4 County Electric Power Association and they have an online outage system.  So I could see that they got my outage phone call and that I was one of 87  customers in a small area that were out.

Now the power has come back on.  Oh sweet, air conditioning! And the lights are back, so I can read if I want to.

We have more outages here than what we had in Ft. Collins and Estes Park.  And that is a good thing because I work for the power company there and we get dinged on quarterly bonus opportunities if there are outages (depending somewhat on whose fault it is).  Things just don’t seem to be as robust here.   I think I am much farther from the power generation here, maybe there are just that many more miles of wire, poles, and transformers that can be zapped, hit by trucks, tripped by suicidal squirrels or whatever.
