Once again faced with the challenge of growing plants

[Today’s run: Roll Tide Loop (11 miles) with the Boardtown Runners.  I ran the first 5.5 miles, felt a twinge in my left calf area that had me walking for nearly the rest of the distance.  But I made it home.  Leg feels a bit better this evening.]

Our house came with some shrubs.  In particular there were two pointy, tall cedar bushes that flanked the garage door on the front of the house.  The bushes were growing well, but they were getting to be too tall, starting to interfere with the exterior garage lights.  And we just didn’t like them much.

So this week I tore out the bushes.  And today we went to Wal-Mart and Lowes and got ourselves fixed up with two large pots, some bagged soil and some set-out flowers and ivy.

At this point in the story it is important that I tell you that our household has been notoriously bad at taking care of houseplants.  Right now we have no plants in the house.  Zero.  We had some but they died.  We had planted some flowers at our previous residence and they grew well as long as we tended to them.  But eventually that stopped and they all died.

So time will tell whether we will keep these new plants going or just forget about them and one day notice the pots are just holding dirt and dead twigs.

But I’m glad the bushes are gone.
