Yippee!!!

Okay, so maybe that is a little bit over the top of how excited I really am, but I am pretty excited.

Yesterday was my designated rest day for the week.  Rest Day is NOT my favorite day of the week.  Normally, I complete my run between 11:30-12:00.  Then I have the scramble to cool down and make lunch for MFH (My Favorite Husband) and myself.

MFH has been out of town (in Colorado) all week, so it has just been me, Paxton, Kali and Castro here at the house.

#Dullsville

I am afraid to admit to y’all that I am boring company.  Paxton and the two cats have slept almost the entire week.  I told you I was boring!

Anyway,

Yesterday was my rest day.  What should happen but the UPS guy pulls up and delivers my brand new running shoes!  ARGH!  I can’t run on a rest day!!!  Well, actually I COULD, but I really do need my rest days.  I spent the remainder of yesterday staring and drooling over my new shoes.

This morning, I was awake and ready to run.  Those new shoes were calling my name.  They are the same brand as what I have been wearing, just a new model.  The ones I had been wearing (Altra Olympus) are technically a trail shoe.  My trail race was done the first weekend of March and I have been trudging around on those trail shoes.

Seeing as I have the Berlin Marathon and the Marine Corp Marathon pending for this fall, I figured I should probably switch over to a road shoe.  So, I ordered a pair of Altra Torin 2.  That is what arrived on my doorstep yesterday.

I laced those puppies up this morning and had a nice (albeit very hot/humid) 9.09 miles.  LOVE these shoes!  Happy knees, feet and hips.  #WIN!!!

I have also been using a new fueling system the last couple of months.

I started using Infinit.   http://www.infinitnutrition.us/

This stuff is gold!

Seriously!

For the 3.5 years I’ve been running, I have been a loyal Gu girl.  I’ve used Gatorade for hydration along with the Gu.

My problem was that even with taking salt along with the Gu and Gatorade, I would be completely encrusted with a crunchy layer of salt at the end of my training run/races.  This was not good.  I was losing waaaayyy too much sodium and couldn’t replace it fast enough.

The other problem I was having was, when it was about time for another Gu, I would have  “Gu crash.”  By that I mean my energy level would all of a sudden tank.  I would crash!  Have nothing left.  Once I would take another Gu, everything would be peachy keen again.  I didn’t like this.  I figured that there had to be a better way.

So….

I decided to try the Infinit.

Seeing as I carry a handheld with me (you HAVE to in Mississippi), I figured it wouldn’t be any big deal to carry my fuel in my handheld instead of Gatorade.

The Infinit is a powder that you mix with plain ol’ water.  You customize EXACTLY what you want/what your body needs and they make it for you just like you asked.  They also keep close tabs to make sure you’re happy with the their product.

So…I really, really like this stuff!  Consistent energy levels throughout my entire run.  No crunchy salt coating my body…good stuff!  BUT…

When I open the package to mix it before my morning run, the sound it makes is EXACTLY the same sound that the package of the kitty treats when I open it!  Here I am at early o’clock, trying to mix up my Infinit and BOOM!  Two cats.

“You rang!?!” they ask?

“No.” I say.  “I’m getting ready for my run.”

“But we heard you open our treats!”  they say.

*sigh*

It’s just easier to give them the kitty treats and be done with it.

Happy cats.  Happy me.

Happy Running, all!  🙂
