I Found A Nest! (and other running musings)(two pics today, too!)

It was a picture perfect morning in Mississippi.  Wonderful running weather!  Seeing as I overslept (by a lot), I was late heading out but had a lovely 10.60 mile run.  It was a great way to kick off the week.

While I was running, I noticed a Killdeer bird.  These birds are great!  They’re really not very fancy to look at~kind small and drab, but boy can they kick up a fuss!

See, it’s spring in Mississippi and that means birds are laying their eggs.  Killdeer are no exception.

The Killdeer lay their eggs along the side of the road in the gravel.  When I run along the road, they get spooked and think I am after their nest.  These poor birds start carrying on, pretending that they have a broken wing.  They drag that wing along the road trying to lead me away from their precious eggs.

I always feel guilty when they go to all of that trouble to protect their nest.  I would never in a million years disturb their eggs!  I did (accidentally) find the nest today and snapped a pic from a distance.  It’s in the top right hand corner of the collage pic.  Can you see the three eggs in the nest?  Look close!

Things are starting to green up around here and there is a lot of pollen on the roads as well.

I love Spring!!!

I also took Paxton to the vet today for his checkup.  He is feeling much better!  He was due for shots and bloodwork to test for heartworm.  He does not have heartworm (YAY) AND he has lost 2 whole pounds!

My pudgy pooch isn’t quite so pudgy anymore!  He now weighs 128 instead of 130.  Paxton is positively svelte!  What a handsome guy he is!  🙂

That’s about all the Monday news from Mississippi.  Take care, all!!!

Here is Paxton at the vets office.  He was a bundle of energy there today!
