Oh, The Weather Outside Is Frightful!

Looking at my running schedule for the week AND taking into consideration Christmas on Thursday, juggling my long run and a rest day before it was, well… a juggle!

I learned the hard way last week that I cannot maintain a running streak and expect to get a good, solid long run completed.

Last week was an easy week, a fall back week on my my training schedule.  I’ve been averaging pretty close to 50 miles a week here for a little bit and last week was only 41 miles.  The break felt great!

Last Wednesday was supposed to be an “easy” long run.  Just 13 miles.  In reality, that is an easy run!  Last Wednesday, though, I could only make it to 9 miles.  I just didn’t have any gas in the tank to go any further.  Pulled the plug on that run.  I really hate doing that and it hardly ever happens.  That was when I knew that the running streak was going to have to end.  Boo.

So, I took last Thursday off as a rest day and I am taking today off as well.  Tomorrow I am looking at 19 miles and I want a good, solid 19 miler.  None of this barely surviving the run stuff.  I want an awesome run!

So, what’s all this have to do with the weather?

Well, I am a weather watcher junkie.  Especially where it affects my long runs.  I have been known to juggle a long run around the weather forecast.

On keeping an eye on our Mississippi weather (which has been exceptionally strange lately) I saw that we had some ugly weather on tap.  Today, so far, we have had 3 thunderstorms roll through and have received a little over 1.5″ of rain.  Seeing as today was supposed be a rest day, I really wasn’t all that concerned.  My big question was, would that weather carry over to tomorrow?

Running in the rain doesn’t bother me at all.  I actually LIKE to run in the rain.  It is the lightening that I won’t run in.  Nasty, dangerous stuff.  I’ve been checking and re-checking the weather for tomorrow.  Looks like we will only have a 20% chance of rain tomorrow with a high of 52.

This is good!  Perfect running weather!  Woo-Hoo!

So, 19 tomorrow.  Christmas Day, throw a turkey in the over and grab a quick 10K.  Come home, shower, beautify (good luck with that, right!?!), finish cooking, load up the car and head over to my sister’s house for Christmas celebrations!  Fun times ahead!

Just in case I get too busy and can’t blog, Merry Christmas, all!   🙂
