First off, I am very excited that barring anything bad happening, I will reach my running goal for 2014 (1600 miles) during my long run on this Wednesday. I’m pretty excited about this!
Today, I ran 11 miles. Tomorrow I am taking off as a rest day. I have discovered that my long runs go better if I take the day before as a rest day. I putter around the house, do my cleaning and all of that nonsense on my rest day and when Wednesday dawns, I am raring to hit the road and cover some serious miles.
This Wednesday’s scheduled run is 19 miles. I will try to get as close to 19 as I can. It might be closer to 20 but who’s counting, right?
This morning, I ran the Schaeffer’s Chapel route 1.5 times. That came out to the 11 miles. I plan on using this route for my long run on Wednesday. That is why I said I will try to get it as close to 19 as I can. It might go a little over but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Enough of all of that. Let’s talk about running buddies.
When I run the Schaeffer’s Chapel route, there is a field where some cattle graze. As a rule, these cows are pretty skittish but they have taken to running with me. Go figure.
Today, I decided to film them running along side of me. I tried this a week ago and thought I would give it another shot.
On my second pass of this field, the cattle had seen me and moved up close to the fencing. As I got close to them, they began to run along side of me (inside the fence, thank you.) I thought to myself, “Photo op!”
I stopped running. So did the cattle.
I dug around in my SpiBelt and pulled out my phone. I turned on the camera and figured out how to get it to do a video. Meanwhile, those goofy cows were patiently waiting.
Now, I am not the most tech savvy person. This took a couple of minutes! Of course, then I realized that I still had my Garmin running. I took the time to shut off the Garmin while I finished fiddling with my phone. All was ready! Now, to get those cows to run again. How in the world do you convince a herd of cattle to run!?!
I looked at the cows, turned my Garmin back on and said, “Okay, guys. Let’s go!” And off they ran! I had my phone recording for just a little bit and we ran! ZOOM!!! Those cows were having a great time! They ran until they reached the end of the field. 🙂
Silly cows!
