The cold weather has arrived here in Mississippi. This is bringing about abrupt changes in the behavior of our animals.
Paxton, my pudgy pooch, prefers to stay indoors most of the time. Usually it is just too doggone hot for him outdoors. He does not deal with warm weather all that well. Actually, he does not do well with super cold weather either. He is a fair weathered “man’s best friend.” HA!
This stuff we’ve been having mid-day, in the 40’s, he really, really likes that.
Usually, he goes out, does his business and charges right back into the house. Get ‘er done.
Now, with the nice mid-day temps, he will sit in the grass for a while and enjoy the weather. He is also a lot more playful than he is during the warmer time of the year.
The two cats, Kali and Castro, are taking to staying in the house at night. This is disconcerting to MFH (My Favorite Husband).
The last couple of nights, it has been in the low 20’s. Too cold for kitty cats. They come in around 7:00 PM and stay in most of the night. They will eat late afternoon and go out and do whatever it is that cats do and then come back in right before we go to sleep.
Around 3:00(ish) they then decide that they NEED to go back out and wake up MFH to be let out. Still haven’t figured out why they don’t wake me up for that. No complaints!
The thing that has been funny has been with the cats. They sleep most of the afternoon. See…
Kali will sleep on a fuzzy blanket. I do not keep this blanket on the bed. It is kind of a throw blanket so I fold it in the morning and put it on the floor for her to sleep on. I do this because Castro likes to sleep on the bed by our pillows. If they both try to be on the bed at the same time, we have a cat fight.
I wish those two would try to get along!
*Funny story*
This morning, I was getting ready to run the sweeper. I had to pick up Paxton’s toys. He had spread stuff all over the place and it all needed to be put away. He had toys all over the floor and the sofa, too. (He will put his teddy bear and other favorite toys on the sofa. They deserve special treatment, don’t you know.)
So, I’m picking up all of this stuff and putting it in his toy box, not really paying attention…just getting the job done. I grabbed the next thing on the sofa. It objected!
I thought, “What!?!”
It was Castro. HA!
I had just grabbed that cat, not very nicely, either! I thought he was another one of Paxton’s toys.
Oops!
Poor cat.
It’s going to be a long winter. 🙂
