Today was a perfect day for my final long run for my 50K training. It was only 88F and the humidity was low as well at 66%. Perfect weather!
I set out a little bit earlier than usual. The weather forecast called for a high of 96F and I did NOT want to be out running in that if I did not have to.
My mileage goal for the day was 20 some odd miles. Maybe a little bit extra if all was going well.
The first 10 miles went great! Negative splits the whole 10 miles. I was moving right along. Felt strong. The heat wasn’t bothering me. It was awesome!!!
I stopped at the house at the 14 mile mark. I needed more Gatorade. I refilled my water bottle and headed on out the door. I ran the cul-de-sac at the end of our street and passed my house again on my way towards Evans Road. I then passed the new house when all of a sudden, “OWWW!!!”
I looked down and there was a bee stuck on the outside of my lower left leg. RATS!
I ran down to Evans Road but my leg really started hurting. This would not do. I needed some Benadryl. Boo. Had to turn around and head back to the house. Rats! Rats!! RATS!!!
So, today’s run that was going so well was cut short by a stupid bee. However, we will choose to look at this as a learning opportunity. I did not have Benadryl on my packing list of things needed for race day. It is there now!
The leg is feeling better but today’s run is a wash. I would still like to get another 20+ mile run under my belt before race day and next week is my last chance for that. After that, I will be tapering (doesn’t that have a nice ring to it!?!)
So, next Wednesday will be my very last loooooong run before race day. I hope. 🙂
