25 Days Until The 50K!

This past Winter, I began training for the biggest race I have ever attempted.  A 50 Miler.  This was huge!  On Christmas Day, I had a 24 mile training run scheduled.  It went off with out a hitch…well, except that my left thigh was unusually sore afterwards.

I continued training for the race.  150 miles more until I could not stand it any more.  I had to go to a Doctor.  The Doctor told me that I had a stress fracture of my femur.  Rats.  6 weeks of crutches.  I was a good girl and stayed on the crutches.  I healed quickly.

During the time on crutches, I learned about a 50K (31.69 miles) to be held not too far from me in April.  I asked the Doctor about that.  He said, “No.  Too soon after healing from your injury.”  BUT, he said that the 50K in July was a thumbs up!  Cool Beans!!!

SO…in 25 days, I will be attempting my first Ultra Marathon.  A 50K.  In July.  In Mississippi.  That average temperature on this day (this information is from my sister.  She looked it up for me.) is 94F and the upper 90’s humidity.  Whee!!!  That first race the average temp was upper 60’s.  This is going to be a whole new ball game.

At first, I thought I was wimping out going for the 50K instead of the 50 Mile race.  Now, I am not thinking that at all.  This is going to be a brutal race!

MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I were looking at the website yesterday for this race and stumbled across a blog post from somebody who ran this exact race back in 2012.    http://edieruns.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Yikes!

I am very, very excited and also absolutely terrified!!!

Through my running connections in the state of Mississippi, I have a lot of running friends~people I have never met in person but are good friends all the same.  You know how that works.  One of these people is going to run this race with me!  How awesome is that!?!

Actually, we were going to run that 50 Miler together back when I messed up my leg and he had to run it himself.  I felt really bad about ditching him like that but life happens.  We have been messaging back and forth on FB and have decided that with the heat/humidity for the day, we would like to be able to complete the 50K in 8 hours.  BUT…if it takes longer, no. big. deal.  We just want to survive.

So, the countdown is on.  25 days.  I have been training for this race since the beginning of March.  I am tired.  I am SO ready for this race.

Wish me luck!!!
