Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Today’s Run:  5.50 miles

What a lovely, lovely morning for a run!

The weather was perfect this morning!  51F.  Sunny skies.  Light NE breeze.  A runner could not ask for a more perfect morning in which to run.  I could not let an opportunity like that pass me by.

I headed out the door a little later than usual.  I was fiddling around on FB.  No excuse other than I was dawdling.  I know better than that.  No harm done, though.

My dawdling made the traffic pattern a little more difficult than usual.  People were heading off to work and they were in a hurry AND they were not looking out for me.  I had to be on my toes today.

There were the usual people that I pass when I am out on my run.  They were running late this morning, too.  There were the people who are usually on the road at this time~they are not used to watching for me on the road and they were distracted drivers…you know, phone in one hand, coffee or cigarette in the other and steering with an elbow.

I am used to running against the traffic mind you and there were no close calls or anything, it was just more of a nuisance than anything else.  The thing I forgot about was the train schedule.

On my way back this morning, I heard the train whistle.  Rats.  I really started to hustle.  I wanted to beat that train.  Nope.  It was not going to happen.  (I am still a little sore from the marathon.)  So, I got stopped by a train.

The train was moving along at a good clip when all of a sudden it stopped.  Oh, no.  Then I heard a scrapey, scrapey, scrapey sound and saw a person off to the side.  Soon there were four cars waiting for the train~parked.  And me.  Standing.  Feeling pretty silly.  But what is a person to do?  Wait, I guess.

Finally the train moved along, leaving half of its cars behind.  That had been the scrapey sound.  The guy I saw had been uncoupling those cars.  Ah.

I toddled off, crossing the tracks with four cars on my side and three on the other side.  The people on the other side were giving me funny looks, like~”Lady, what in the world are you doing!?!”  It did feel very strange to run across the tracks with cars following you, waiting for you to get out of the way~even though I was way off to the side and out of their way.  It was just weird.

Have you ever seen the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles?  It has Planes, Trains and Automobiles in it!  Go figure.  On my run this morning, you now know I had the trains and automobiles components. Well…while I was walking the dog a little while ago, a plane flew over.  Spooked the dog~what a chicken.  So, here you have it:  Planes, Trains and Automobiles!       🙂
