Today’s run: 4 miles
Today I ran just for the fun of it.
At this moment, I am not in training for a particular race. That will change in another week so I took advantage of a local 5K this morning! How much fun!
I thought that a 5K would be “easy” in that the distance would not be difficult. I was wrong. I am so used to slow and steady pace for my long distance races that I forgot about the intensity of these shorter races!
Wow~3.1 miles can seem like a long, long way when you are running full tilt.
To top it off~The course was long…by almost a half mile! Yikes! Insult to injury there. That little 3.1 miles ended up much, much closer to 4 miles.
My time for the 5K was 34.09 minutes. Not too shabby for this ol’ gal. Considering that I am a self-recognized slow poke, I was moving at a pretty good clip for these short, stubby legs.
It was a perfect day for running. 50 F. Sunny. Light NW breeze. Delightful!
To those of you who regularly race the 5K distance, my hat is off to you. That short burst of running all out is tough! Give me a half marathon or a full any day of the week. I can pace myself and enjoy a bit of the scenery along the way. This was a challenge!
I have one more week of just running for fun. One more week of carefree jaunts around the block. After that, duty calls and I begin training for my Ultra. 50 miles, at this moment sounds a lot easier than that all out effort this morning.
50 miles. Wow. Sounds unreal. I can hardly wait!!!
