Ed, Ed, Ed, You Silly Chicken

Today’s Run:  4.27 miles

The soon to be famous Ed Stakrispie was a silly, silly chicken today.

First of all, Ed’s first story will be published in a week or two!  YAY Ed!!!

We had storms roll through late this afternoon.  As you all well know, Ed Stakrispie likes to “fly the coop”.  She did this during the late afternoon and I was not keeping a close enough eye on her to be aware of this.

My son called and said that they were getting a lot of rain and wanted to know if we were, too. Usually, the weather he gets arrives at our place around a half hour after he gets it.  I said “No” but looked out the door.  It was pouring!

I told him that, “Yes!  We are getting rain” and looked out the back door.  Those chickens are not the brightest of the bunch and I wanted to see if they had any sense at all to go into the chicken tractor to get out of the rain.

It was really coming down and all the chickens were in the tractor.  All of them except of this pathetic little black hen running round and round the fence of the coop trying to find the way back in.  I told my son that “Ed was lose and I would call him back”.

My husband heard this exchange and grabbed a cap and the umbrella before I could even slip my feel into my rain boots!  Bam!  He was out the door to save Ed!

Ed wanted in the coop but not bad enough to let my husband pick her up.  So, my husband opened the gate and Ed ran through the opening and into the tractor.  What a bird!

Last I saw, she was still under the tractor preening.  She was a very wet chicken.  You know the old saying, “Madder than a wet hen”?  Yup.  That was Ed.
