Nostalgia

[Today’s run : zero]

Sorry that I have not kept up with my blog for about the past week!I’ve been busy twittering and blogging and crowdfunding for the new radio station. It hasn’t produced much in the way of contributions, but I’m going to plug away at it for another 12 days and we’ll see where we are when the dust settles.

Anyway, I have learned that the high school I graduated from is going to split off from the church that ran it and move to another location. (And my first elementary school they tore down, my middle school they tore down… one elementary school left!)

I went to the church for my first 18 years of life, went to the school, and eventually got married in that church.  But I haven’t been back in a long time.

That also got me thinking about the house we lived in for a few years that was just around the corner from that church, even though we went to a different church by that time.  The house is now a group home run by an operation called Mosiac, for intellectually handicapped people.

We hope to get back to the old home turf in September this year, to visit my folks at their home and to attend the Iowa State Fair.

I’m a nostalgia kind of guy.  I must have had it pretty good in Iowa because I still remember living there and enjoying it.  And I must have had it pretty good in Colorado too because I miss that.  I even have some fond memories of living for a short time in Chicago and in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

Now I live in Mississippi and it still feels a bit odd.  But I can’t complain.  And, if I can get this radio station thing off the ground I plan to be here for quite awhile.

Frequently I have two feelings at the same time:  #1 is that I remember all of this stuff with fondness and #2 is that I’m surprised that there is so much of it.  I must be getting old since I can say things like “forty years ago…” and remember some of the events of that time.
