Long run before a longer run

[Today’s run: 23.1 miles]

In marathon training you work up your longest run, once a week, over about 18 weeks until you do a “long run” in the 20-23 mile range.  Then there’s a period called “the taper” lasting a week or two before the race.

Today we did our last and longest “long run” for the marathon three weeks away.  We ran an out and back course of 11.5 miles each way.  We started around 4:30 am, maybe a bit earlier.  We were at the first water stop when Mike came around putting out the water stops.  And we finished about 10:15 or so.  We are not fast runners.

It was a nice day for running.  It could have been a bit cooler to suit me, but this was better than what we had been seeing all summer.

I took this picture on Robinson Road south of the Browning Creek development.  By this time we were running without our flashlights on.  We did turn them on if a car approached.
