[Today’s run: rest day]
Having the found a big problem in the power supply section of the 8566B spectrum analyzer, I worked quite a bit yesterday afternoon to get it accessible and repaired.
I ended up using a small piece of copper flashing. I tinned it with solder on both sides after drilling a hole in it and trimming it up with tin snips. I also got the green solder-mask stuff off of the traces which were damaged, back far enough to let this new piece connect. I tinned the traces with solder too.
Then I used a solder gun to put the new piece in place. I think it looks pretty good. I will need to use a small washer on the other hole when I put in the new electrolytic capacitor so as to make the holes even and not bend the board.
I found a new capacitor on the Mouser website and I have ordered it. That should come about the end of next week. Then we get to put it in and see what happens. I hope the rest of the thing is feeling healthy.
