[Today’s run: 2.5 miles]
I passed my ham radio test in 1981 and then got a further license class in 1982.
Soon after that my father bought me a kit from the old Heathkit Co. It was an HW-8 QRP transceiver. I put it together on my desk in my dorm room in Friley Hall.
I’ve had it on the air a few times. For awhile I had loaned it out to a friend in Iowa. Unfortunately, I broke it sometime before I sent it to him and he is not the “fix it” kind of radio guy.
While we were back in Iowa I collected it again from him. And I have fixed it a bit since we returned home. I’ve had two QSOs on it so far.
Four bands, CW only, direct conversion receiver. It only puts out about 2 watts.
I need to add a dial light. maybe I can rig something up. There are a lot of well documented modifications that can be done. But this one is pretty much just stock.
