Office cleanup

[Today’s run: 4+ miles on the new highway]

This afternoon I finally got around to cleaning up a bit in my combination office/radio room.

I got a big wad of cables and cords sorted out.  Most of them were not doing anything.  I need to find some kind of cheap cable tray that I can screw to the bottom of my work surfaces to route the networking cables around, up off of the floor.

I also put some old posters on the wall and stacked up some stuff that was sitting out in the middle of the floor.  So I didn’t throw away much, but things are quite a bit better.

In related developments, I’m planning to take a bunch of stuff to the Capital City Hamfest in Jackson, MS at the end of January.  I have 16 vhf cavity filters in two tall racks.  I have a tube-amp power supply.  I have an old O-scope.  I’m sure I can come up with more.

At the moment I cannot think of anything that I am shopping for.  If I ran into some cheap hard-line antenna feed I would be tempted.  Maybe another tube-type receiver would be nice.  But mostly I just want to make some space and clear out some of the stuff that I’m not using and never will use.

Hamfests are kind of funny.  Some people try to actually make money selling their old stuff.  I’m more of the ‘get rid of it’ school, I just want it gone.  But I admit I get a bit miffed when I sell something cheap to someone, expecting them to use it, and find it a few days later on e-bay.  Ok, maybe it didn’t work for them and they want to move it along.  Maybe so.

It reminds me of a guy a few years ago.  I had an old “terminal unit” box which was  given to me, so no skin off my nose.  I advertised it for cheap, maybe free, and a guy showed interest so I sent it off to him.  He claimed that it didn’t show up.  So we made a claim on UPS  (I guess there must have been some selling price involved).  And that was that.  Funny part is that later I saw him advertising that same model of equipment for sale in another place.  Made me seriously wonder.
