Today’s Run: Rest day (I can run in two more days!)
I want to bush-hog. More importantly, I want to bush-hog the lot behind our house. What is bush-hogging? Here is a good definition of bush-hogging ” A bush-hog, for those of you from New York, Los Angeles or Jupiter, is the term used for a large mower pulled behind a farm tractor. With it, you can rid your property of brush and weeds up to the thickness of your forearm.”.
There is a lot adjacent to our property of about 20 acres that gets bush-hogged once a year whether it needs it or not (and it always does). Last Summer it was bush-hogged on the Fourth of July. I remember that date because we came home from a party at my parents house and it had been done while we were gone. So this twenty acres has not been mowed for one year, one month and one day. The weeds are much taller than I. It needs more than mowed, it needs bush-hogged!
I have always enjoyed mowing so it seems only right that I would enjoy bush-hogging~seeing as it is an extension of mowing. I have tried many scenarios in my mind of how to let the owner of the property let me use his tractor, etc. and take care of that lot. But I really cannot come up with a tactful way of saying, “That lot is a mess! Can I borrow your bush-hog and cut it down?”
So, now, every morning I look out the window and hope that maybe today is the lucky day where I will find Mr. Fleming out there cutting down the growth on that field. Stay tuned and I will let you know when he does it!
