Today’s Run: 7.62 miles
We woke early this morning to a thunderstorm (3:00 a.m.). We had to get up at 4:00 to get ready for the running group so we just stayed up. Besides, the dog was scared. It was 77 degrees.
We left the house at 5:30 for the running group and we still had that thunderstorm raging. It was firmly planted over our house, it seemed. We figured that we would drive out of it on our way to Starkville to run. Nope.
We left the meeting house in Starkville to begin our run at 6:00 a.m. It was still 77 degrees! Very warm for a run and the thunderstorm was still in full tilt! Still, we got on the road, again thinking that the storm would dissipate. Nope again! It actually got worse.
The lightning got real bad. The hair on the back of my neck was standing straight up with each strike. I was very glad to be a vertically challenged person!
Soon, a Jeep Wrangler pulled up. “Get in!” he said. It was the “lightning police”. The husband of one of our runners was unhappy that his wife and ourselves were out in the storm and he came to put an end to our stupidity. So, five adults were crammed into the back of that Jeep and we boogied on back to the White’s house where we waited out the lightning.
We did have the privilege of repeating the first 1 1/2 miles of the run (do not pass “Go” do not get $200.00) due to our very generous ride back the the White’s. Safety first!
