The Tower

Today’s Run:  Rest Day!

My husband is a ham.  By that I mean one of his hobbies is amateur radio.  He is a lifetime member of the ARRL and has awards, plaques, certificates all pertaining to this hobby.  He also has a tower.  This tower is 60′ tall and has four different antennae sprouting in different directions. It is a work of art.

But one can always improve upon perfection!

About a month ago we went on a Sunday drive to Smithville, Mississippi. While on that trip, we picked up some hard wire that they use for cable T.V.  (you have probably seen some of it growing between utility poles in your neighborhood).  It is about an inch in diameter and it is hard~hence the name, hard wire!  Anyway, we got that because my husband thought he would like to run some of that up his tower to be a higher efficiency transmitting line.

Yesterday, we spent about 2 1/2 hours climbing the tower (my husband climbed~I am afraid of heights!), replacing an antenna, hauling up the hard wire and installing various and sundry extras.  And it works!  Bells and Whistles!!!  Why the rush?  Well, because there is a ham radio contest this weekend, silly.  We MUST be ready for the contest!

Really, I like my husbands hobby and am very glad that he enjoys it!  I just like to tease.
