Today’s run was to be 10 miles~ a 1 mile warm up and then the remaining 9 miles at Half Marathon race pace. No worries! HA!
Seeing as it’s a Monday, first thing after MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I had breakfast was to call MIL. She and I chat every Monday morning…for a long time. We both look forward to the Monday chats and we make up for not talking the rest of the week! Seeing as we are both “talkers,” we are talking non-stop. It’s pretty amazing, really! Today our call lasted 1.5 hours. That’s about average for one of our Monday morning calls.
When we started chatting, it was only 62* and I was secretly hoping it would warm up a bit before my run. 62* is still just a little on the chilly side for my taste. When we got off the phone, HOLY COW but it had warmed up! 78* and 94% humidity. Yikes!
I hurried and got ready for my run. Took the time to grab some hydration for this run. 10 miles in that weather could turn ugly real fast if I got dehydrated. Better safe than sorry.
Strapped on my Garmin and RoadID. Grabbed my water bottle and a couple of gels, told MFH my route and hit the road.
My first mile was the easy pace warm up. No problems. My Garmin let me know that mile was up with a gentle buzz on my wrist and I got down to business. Picked up the pace, increased my cadence and (for me) zoomed!
Started out by doing a loop on Robinson Road. I did this first because I know how awful it is to run past my street coming back from Limerock Road. Thought I’d be a smarty pants and get Robinson out of the way first so I wouldn’t have to tack it on to the end of the run. That actually worked out pretty well! *pats self on the back*
After Robinson, I ran the long stretch on Evans up to Limerock. This part of the run is hilly. The loop from my house, Limerock and back is a nice 8 miles. I don’t know what it is about Limerock but it is always, and I mean ALWAYS a hard run! Today was no exception.
Now because I was an extra smarty pants on Robinson, I had tossed on an extra pass on that road. That gave me an extra mile on my total before I reached Limerock. I was soooo happy for that extra mile because it was uber hot up there! Limerock has absolutely no shade. Nada. Even though it was overcast this morning, Limerock was still awful. Since I had that extra mile added on from Robinson, I didn’t have to go allllll the way to the dead end of Limerock. YAY!!!
It was coming back on Limerock that my brain left me for a mile.
See, all this time I had been hitting all my splits spot on! To be honest, I was super pleased with how the run was going! I’m afraid I lost focus and my brain went to la-la land. I started thinking about #1 Daughter and her fiance’ traveling from Colorado tomorrow. Thinking about #1 Son’s college graduation on Saturday. Thinking about how I have GOT to clean the house before #1 Daughter and her fiance’ arrive on Wednesday. Thinking about my In-Laws arriving on Friday. Thinking about the 20 Miles to run on Wednesday and getting it done before #1 Daughter arrives at the house. Too much thinking and I slowed down on that mile. Oops! RATS!
Needless to say, that one silly little mile made me miss my assigned splits for the day by 15 overall seconds. 15 seconds!!! No fair! My own fault. *sigh* Come race day in two weeks I simply cannot let myself get distracted! I hardly ever let my mind wander. I stay focused on what I’m doing when I’m running…that and watching out for snakes, etc. LOL!!!
Made it home, safe and sound. I was out of water and gels. Worked hard out there today! It was a satisfying run and I am content.
Tomorrow’s a rest day and I’ll mow in the morning and wrap up the housework in the afternoon.
