Castro

Castro is one of our two cats.

Our first cat, Kali, actually belongs to #1 Daughter.  She is a smallish cat and as sweet as can be.

Kali came to live with us when #1 Daughter decided to move from Colorado to Alaska.  She asked if we would take in Kali during the move.  We agreed and Kali came to live in Mississippi with MFH (My Favorite Husband) and myself.  She’s lived with us a little over 5 years.

When Kali lived with #1 Daughter, she had a litter of kittens.  One of these kittens was Castro.  Castro is a large cat (15 pounds as of last weeks Vet visit).  When Kali’s kittens were ready to go to a new home, #1 Daughter decided to give Castro to #1 Son.  He was in college and living by himself.  He needed the company.  It was a good arrangement.

Then, #1 Son decided to move, too!  He asked if Castro could come to live with us in Mississippi seeing as Kali was already here.  What could we say?  So Castro came to live in Mississippi, too.

When #1 Son moved, he actually moved to Mississippi.  He was a student at Mississippi State University.  Through a very long story that we’re just going to skip, Castro lived a short while with him in his apartment close to the University.

Then, one day Castro went missing!

We looked everywhere for Castro.  We made phone calls.  Put up handbills.  Walked all over the place calling for him…after about a month, we came to the conclusion that Castro had used up all 9 of his kitty lives.  We were sad but it happens.

Three or four months after this, we received a phone call at our home.  It was about 4:30 in the afternoon.  I remember this because I was getting dinner ready.  It was the University!

“Do you have a white cat named Castro?” said the voice over the phone.

We explained that we used to but he had gone missing.

“Well, we have him.  He has been living in the ceiling tiles above the cafeteria in one of the dorms.  We finally caught him and you have a half hour to come get him or we’re sending him to the pound.”

Oh!

Well, dinner got put on hold that day because MFH hopped in the car and drove to Starkville, Mississippi, to get that cat.

When he had moved into the apartment with #1 Son, he was a regular sized cat.  When we picked him up, he was HUGE!!!  That cat had been eating very well after the college students had gone to bed!  #oink

Castro is now living with us.  No more dorm life for him.  That was 3 or 4 years ago, I guess.  He’s a happy cat these days.

That’s Castro’s story.
