Some Runs Are Just Awesome Like That

On Monday, I had headed out with the intention of running the half marathon distance (13.1 miles).  That didn’t happen.  I made it just a tad over 8 miles and had to pull the plug on the run.  We’ve been having some warm and humid weather here in Mississippi and it was giving me a bit of trouble.

Tuesday (yesterday) was a rest day so today, I decided to give that 13.1 miles another shot.  After a slice of toast and a cup of coffee, I headed on out the door for that half marathon.

I had figured out in my head a route that would keep me no further than 5 miles from the house at any one time.  The first 5.5 miles would keep me within 2 miles of the house.  I would make a pass by the house and then head further away from home.  Easy Peasy.

It was on the first 5 miles, actually when my Garmin beeped mile 5 that my day turned totally awesome.

I got a horse kiss!!!

There is a field a few miles from my house that has three horses in it.  For a long time there were only 2 horses and they were best friends.  About a month ago, they added a new horse to the field and the new horse has separated the two best friend horses from each other.

This makes me sad.

So as I was running past the field, the sweet brown and while horse, the one the doesn’t get to hang out with his best friend brown horse anymore, nickered to me from the fence.  He wanted his nose rubbed.

How can you say, “No” to that?

I stopped and walked over to the horse.  I had to hop the ditch.  I looked around for snakes first, then hopped the ditch and rubbed that sweet horses nose.

He was lonely.

Poor thing.

I was getting ready to hop the ditch again when that horse started giving me horse kisses!  I was so surprised!  That was the sweetest thing ever!!!  I grabbed my phone out of my SpiBelt and took a pic of me getting horse kisses.  I mean, how many times in my life is that going to happen?

Yes.  Some runs are just awesome like that!
