Most of you know that I have been doing a challenge with RunTheEdge this year. The challenge was to run 2015 miles in 2015. I have 35 miles left to complete the challenge and should, if all goes well, complete the challenge by the mid-end of next week.
This has been a doozie of a challenge.
Last year had been my highest mileage year ever with a total of 1600 miles. It was a real close one, too! I almost didn’t make the 1600!
As January 2015 drew nearer, I needed a new mileage goal. I had spent close to a month on the injured list in 2014 so I knew I could run more than 1600 miles in 2015. I toyed with the idea of 2000 miles and mentioned it to some of my running friends.
They told me, “Go big or go home.”
In other words, run 2015 in 2015.
It was tempting!
That’s when I saw the challenge with RunTheEdge and saw it came with a medal if you made it.

I signed up.
I knew I needed to average 170(ish) miles each month to make my 2015 goal.
January, I only had 165 miles. Ugh. Playing catch-up already!
As the year progressed, however, I was running stronger. Longer. Better. I was able to run more miles each month than I ever had before. I had at least 4 months this year with over 200 miles. For me, that is incredible running!
I was very worried about September and October. Two complete months of tapering for two marathons three weeks apart. That was going to kill my miles. I thought I might miss my goal. Rats.
When I tallied up my September and October miles, I was surprised to see them pretty darned close to where I needed them to be for this challenge! Funny how running 160-170 mile months seem like an easy month.
So, here it is, November 6 and I’m seeing only 35 miles left to reach my 2015 miles in 2015 goal! I think we’re going to make it!!!
That, and with starting my 50M training on November 15, unless something dreadful happens, that 2015 is going to get passed up by maybe 100 miles? Woo-Hoo!!!
So what’s all of this have to do with Aiden?
As you know, I was matched with Aiden early this spring. He is my running buddy with the IRun4 Program. http://www.whoirun4.com/ After waiting a little over 6 months to get matched, I can say with complete honesty, Aiden was worth those months of waiting!!! He is the best of the best as far as running buddies go!
He is a sweetie! A fighter! A cutie! I will turn myself inside out to be the best runner for him I can possibly be.
All of this to say, I ordered another 2015 medal for Aiden. He’s earned it in that he has encouraged me in so many ways over the course of this year to excel. #IRun4Aiden
