I thought today was the last tempo run for the training program for the Berlin Marathon. With that happy thought in mind, I toddled off to the “Y” to use my last free three day pass and run this on a TM.
Seeing as it’s Monday, I started the day off with a phone call to MIL. We chat every Monday for at least 1.5 hrs. I swear that each of us makes a list during the week of things we need to remember to tell each other! This makes for some very fun Monday morning conversations. Hahaha!!!
While I was talking with MIL, I also had the bedding going. Monday is also the day I do the bedding. TMI? I feel like I am multi-tasking if I have the laundry going. By the time our conversation is done, I have the bed re-made and am set to go about the day.
Lately, with how hot/humid it has been, I’ve been making my Monday morning call AFTER the run. It simply gets too hot to run if I run after the phone call but seeing as I was going to hit the TM, I called before. Worked just fine. Had a lovely chat and I was on the road by 9:00.
Got to the “Y” and the first thing I noticed was it was unusually warm in there. Uh-oh. The A/C has having a little trouble today. Happens. Turned in my pass and walked on over to the room with all the TM’s.
The one I like? My most favorite TM in the whole place? The one with cup holders on both sides and for some reason I just really, really like it? A lady was on it. Grrr!!! Not only was she on it, she was walking on the thing about as slow as it would go. I was happy to see she was out walking and all but doggone it! That was MY TM!
Hahaha!!! Funny how we get possessive of things that aren’t ours. 🙂
I had to use the TM right behind her. No worries.
I hopped on and cranked the pace to a 9:00 pace. This was my warm up mile.
I was getting very warm very fast! It really was kinda toasty in there. Sure was wishing I had my favorite TM! It was next to a floor fan. *sigh* That’s when I made the mistake of looking at the lady out for a stroll on my favorite TM. She was talking on her cell!!! Nooooo!!!! That was so wrong!!!
*I was laughing at myself as I was thinking this. I was telling myself, “Howard, you’re being a TM snob. Knock it off!” It really was kinda funny.
Finishing that first mile and increased the pace to an 8:30 and got down to business. The miles started going by and I was getting warmer and warmer. I was getting uncomfortable. I was getting too hot.
This wasn’t good.
At mile 5, I hit the pause button. ToWednesdayok at drink of my fuel. Took a deep breath and hit resume.
Mile 6 came. Hit the pause button. Took another drink of my fuel. Took another deep breath and hit resume.
Mile 6 sucked. Holy cow it was bad! I kept telling myself, only 4 miles to go! I knew deep down that 10 miles wasn’t going to happen. Not today.
During mile 6, mentally I was reviewing my training plan for the week. Tomorrow called for a rest day but Wednesday I was scheduled for 20 miles with the last 5 as a fast finish. The question I asked myself was: If I went ahead and forced the last few miles, what were my chances of being able to successfully complete Wednesday’s run.
I knew those chances were not good.
Mile 7. That’s when I decided that a 7 mile tempo run was good enough for today.
7.05 miles for the morning at an 8:32 pace.
A friend of mine from the day’s when I would lift at the “Y” very kindly took a short video of the run today. I asked her to do it so I could share it with my little IRun4 buddy, Aiden. He’s seen pics of me running before but never me running. Shoot, I’ve seen pics of me running before but never me running! HA!
In a sec, I’ll post the video here. What did I learn from the video? I have a nice, quick cadence. This is good. My posture is pretty good, too! These things were encouraging. The last thing I learned is my tummy is a tattle-tale. It tattled and told everybody that I’ve enjoyed a few too many hot fudge malts lately. HA! Time to buckle down and eat a little bit more healthy.
Trust everybody had a wonderful weekend! Here’s to a brand new week! Enjoy! 🙂
