Trash Day and Running

Tuesday evening, right before I go to bed, you will find me going around to each room in the house emptying trash cans.  Wednesday is trash day and the guys tend to come pretty early.

MFH (My Favorite Husband) is the person who actually takes the trash out to the curb.  I collect it.  He takes it out.  We have a good system going.

I left around 7:45 for my run this morning.  The trash was still at the curb!  This was unusual.  The guys are pretty prompt.  I figured they were running late today.  Happens…

Lately, I have been running 3-5 miles on my road before moving off of my street.  From my drive to the stop sign (counting the cul-de-sac) is .83 miles.  I loop my road a couple of times and it’s like free miles!  The reason I have been doing this is because I can get a few miles with shady spots.  If I take off directly, I have no shade whatsoever for my entire run.

This time of year, shade is my friend.

So, I had run 5 miles on my street. My street was getting pretty mundane so I was happy to be moving away and seeing new sights.  At mile 7, I was on Robinson Road.  I had completed one complete pass on Robinson and this was my second.  As I was heading north on this road, I heard the familiar rumble (and smell) of the garbage truck.

They saw me.  They’re good guys.  They pulled over to one side of the road and let me have a little bit of room (our roads are 1.5 lanes wide).  As we got close, I waved and they honked.  We do this every week so it wasn’t any big deal.  Same ol’. Same ol.

I completed my run and came home to mow for another 2.5 hours.

MFH and I had sat down for lunch but I’m here to tell you, after the run AND the mowing, this kid was HUNGRY!  I didn’t want to cook, either.

I hopped in the shower.  Got dressed and beautified and went to find MFH.  I told him I wanted a bacon cheeseburger for dinner.

He could tell I was hungry and didn’t want to cook so he said I could go buy some (with his blessing.  He’s a smart guy. HA!)

Off I went for the gas station.  The gas station!?!  Yup. The gas station.

Our gas station makes THE BEST bacon cheeseburger you will find anywhere.  Seriously!  These things are great!!!

So, I placed my order and waited.

While I was waiting this guy came in.  He was a mess!  Filthy!!!  Looked like he had been working hard all day.  Poor guy.  He was walking by me when he stopped.

“Hey!  I seen you out running this morning!” he exclaimed.

He continued on, “I was on the back of the garbage truck. I tried to talk to you but I guess you didn’t hear me. Good luck on your big race!!!”

What a nice guy!   He’s right, though. I didn’t hear him. Too bad. Funny, though, how even your trash collectors know your racing schedule. HA!
