Rest Day: A Fairy Tale

Once upon a time there was this thing called:  Rest Day.

Rest Day was a magical day.  It was a day where you rested from all your intense exercising and gave your body a chance to recover.  A chance to catch up with yourself so you would be fresh as a daisy to begin exercising again.

At first, this Rest Day delivered as promised.  You were able to sit back.  Watch a movie on Netflix.  Read a book.  Truly relax.  During this time, you were only running 30-35 miles a week so you were able to keep up with your other responsibilities around the house.

Life was grand!

Little by little, your mileage started creeping higher and higher.  It got so high that last week you ended up running almost 58 miles!  This made you tired.  It made you so tired that the only things you were able to do were to cook, do laundry and walk Paxton.

Not much housework got done.

Life was still mighty fine, though!

Finally, that Rest Day popped up in your training schedule again.  This time it was different.  This time there was work to be done.  It was not a day of rest at all.  It was a day of work.  It was a day of marathon housecleaning.

If you weren’t such a perfectionist with your house, maybe it wouldn’t be such a labor intensive day but you knew that if you didn’t get the house cleaned “Just right” the rest of the week you would go bonkers looking at dust and things you missed on your “Rest Day.”

So, you cleaned and cleaned and cleaned.

Finally, the house was sparkly!  It looked great!  You were content and ready to start running again in the morning.

Tomorrow, you will be back to normal.  Back to feeling the satisfaction of completing a successful run and a job well done.
