My John Deere Z425

I love my mower.  I really, really do.

My mower is a snazzy mower.  It is a JD Z425.  This thing is sweet and I drive it hard.

In the peak mowing months, you will find me out on that JD cutting the grass on my 2 acres twice a week.  The grass grows long and it grows fast.  I’ll be zipping back and forth at a pretty good clip.  The summer months get pretty toasty in Mississippi and the breeze from the mower feels good.

This winter and spring has been especially wet.  And cold.  Normally, I beginning mowing early to mid February but this year, I didn’t begin mowing until the very end of March.  That March mowing was just a spot check.  There were a few places that were getting shaggy but the rest of the property was just fine.

Last Wednesday, though, I mowed every inch of our 2 acres.  It needed it.  It felt good to be out on that mower.  Just making pass after pass.  Keeping the passes ram rod straight.  Lost in my thoughts.  Not a care in the world.

Loved every single minute!

It has rained almost every day since I mowed last Wednesday and the grass has exploded!  Time to mow again.  Yesterday, we only got some sprinkles.  Today.  Sunshine.  Tomorrow and Friday.  Rain.  Saturday sunshine then two more days of rain.

If I was going to mow, it had to be today.

Out I went.

Now, I have put that mower through its paces many a time but today I really made it work.

We have poor drainage on our property.  Our 2 acres is mostly a heavy clay and it gets thick and mucky when wet.  We had lots of standing water in places where we usually don’t.  I noticed that there were aquatic plants growing!  This had to stop.

So, today, I discovered that my good old John Deer could also double as a Swamp Buggy!

That wonderful mower plunged into the standing water and fought through the sticky mud without skipping a beat.  My rows were still ram rod straight.  Granted, they were muddy ram rod straight but I’m telling you, that mower didn’t care.

Hopefully, the yard will dry out by August, maybe?  HA!

Today’s activities:  Run 10.00 miles.   Mowing 2.5 hours.

This is a Swamp Buggy not my mower. It is green like my mower, though!   🙂
