One week from today I will be running my first race of 2015. The Mississippi River Marathon http://www.msrivermarathon.com/
Presently, I am registered for two marathons in 2015. This one and the Berlin Marathon http://www.bmw-berlin-marathon.com/en/ in Berlin, Germany. The Berlin Marathon isn’t until the end of September so these two marathons are, obviously, spaced pretty far apart.
Many of you already know that I have a time goal for the marathon this year. I would really, really like to break a 5 hr marathon in 2015. This would mean a 20 minute PR over last October’s Chicago Marathon. That’s a pretty big PR.
The Mississippi River Marathon is supposed to be flat. It is run on the Mississippi Delta. If you’ve ever been to the Delta, you know it is F.L.A.T. There is just the tiny issue of the bridge.
Half the race is in Arkansas. The other half of the race is in Mississippi. The half way point is this 3 mile bridge that crosses the Mississippi River and it is one doozey of a bridge!!!
My coach has me training at an 11:15-11:30 pace to get that 5:00 hour time but that was before I saw the bridge. We are going to have to change the pacing around a bit. I’m thinking that it will take me (hopefully only) 15 minutes to reach the peak of the bridge and then try to make up time lost on the way back down the other side. Yikes!
Other than fretting and stewing about that silly bridge, I think I’m ready for this race! Physically ready, that is. My mind will be going bonkers the rest of the week. I will be trying to get myself psyched to reach the top of that bridge without shooting myself in the foot for the remaining 13.1 miles.
Exciting stuff, huh? HA!
MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I were able to run 5 miles together this morning. That was a treat! We don’t get to run together much anymore. What a fun run that was!!! He was taking pics with his phone while we ran so I’ll just leave you with one of the pics he took of me while we were out. A very sunny, albeit it chilly morning in Mississippi.
