Armadillos And Other Mowing Musings

Took a rest day from running today.  Instead, I mowed.  Woo-Hoo!

Y’all know how much I enjoy mowing.  Seriously!  It is one of my most favorite things to do.  My problem is finding the time to get it done.  Since we’ve been back from vacation, it has only been mowed once and MFH (My Favorite Husband) did it for me.  That was such a huge relief for him to do that for me, too.  I was buried in chores.  Thanks again, Sweetie!

Seeing as we had been gone for 10 days and I had not mowed for about that long before we left on our trip, a lot has changed in my yard.

First things, first.  We have an Armadillo.  Boo.  I’m going to have to dwell on ideas to get rid of that guy.  Those things are a pain.  There may be more than one because I saw evidence of it all across the two acres I mow.  Hmmm…think, think, think.

Second, it is drier than I thought.  We have gone 11 days without rain.  Some of you may not consider that a big deal but when I was mowing today, I found very large cracks in the yard.  We need some rain.

Third, the Crepe Myrtles are done blooming!  YAY!  Crepe Myrtles are not my favorite bush/tree.  They are pretty when they are in bloom but that’s about it.  When they are in bloom, the blossoms attract those big, black and yellow, fuzzy striped bumble bees.  Those bumble bees are very pretty and very, very nasty!  I have to wear my bee suit to mow around those Crepe Myrtles and we have 8 of the goofy things.

Fourth, I didn’t see any fire ants today!  I guess they all went deep into the ground to get away from the hot, dry weather.  Sissies.

Fifth, my grass is suffering from the hot, dry weather.  Usually, my lawn is very lush and green.  Today, it is dry, dull and almost all brown.  The only places where it is green is the places where the chickens have most recently been.  HA!  Let’s hear it for chickens!   🙂

Sixth, my honey bees were in a remarkably good mood today!  That was nice.  Not going to complain about that one!

I also noticed today that the neighbors have not been mowing much either.  That makes me feel better.  I always feel like a beatnik neighbor if I don’t keep up with my yard.

So, mowing done.  150 minutes.  95F  58% humidity.  Nice, warm, sunny morning.  Can’t beat it!
