Chicken Wrestling for ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Remember yesterday when I told you, “Always be Prepared?”  Well, today I was kinda prepared and still kinda not prepared.

The heat as arrived as advertised.  It is toasty out there.

As usual, I got onto FB this morning to discover that my friend had nominated me to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that is going around on social media.  If you are not familiar with this challenge, a person calls you out on a social media site and challenges you to dumb a bucket of water on yourself and/or make a donation to ALSA.ORG.  This donation goes towards ALS research.  It is a very worthy cause.

Well, yesterday, I had purchased two 10lb bags of ice for my chickens so I could make them ice water during the hot afternoons.

I used the chickens ice.  Shhh, don’t tell them!

MFH (My Favorite Husband) agreed to use my phone to record this momentous event.  I had a 5 gallon bucket.  I dumped in 10lbs of ice and filled it up to the tippy top with water. That bucket weighed a ton!  Well, maybe not a ton but it was very heavy.

MFH pointed my phone towards me, I said what needed to be said.  I nominated three running friends of mine in Mississippi and dumped the bucket on myself.

MFH and I went to see the video.  My phone had not recorded it.  At all!  Rats!

I went back into the house, changed into dry clothes, got the second of the two bags I had bought for the chickens.  I dumped the last 10 lb bag of ice into that bucket AGAIN, filled that bucket with water AGAIN, gave my phone to MFH AGAIN and proceeded to dump very cold water all over myself.  AGAIN.

This time, my phone recorded.  Whew!

So, I kinda wrestled my chickens for their ice today (even though they don’t know it).  But it was for a worthy cause.  Instead of ice water today, they received a fresh slice of watermelon.  They don’t know how lucky they are!   🙂
