Chicago Marathon Training

As you all know and are probably sick of hearing about, I finally ran that 50K two weeks ago.  It was a doozey of a race!

In between the completion of that race and the beginning of our vacation (which we just got home from two days ago) I had 6 days.  I took two day off from running after the 50K and then did smallish runs of 5-8 miles.  Nothing too aggressive.  Then we left for our vacation.

We drove all day Friday, August 1…16 hrs or so on the road to reach our destination, Des Moines, Iowa.  The very next day, I ran a 5 miler.  The day after that 9…..I took two rest days during our 10 day vacation.  I put in close to 50 running miles during our vacation.

We drove back home this last Sunday.  I took Monday off as a rest day due to mountains of laundry and housework.

Today was a run day.  Before I started on my run, I decided to look at a schedule and figure out just where I was as far as training for the Chicago Marathon was concerned.  It is 8 weeks away.

I knew that I would be behind in my training for Chicago.  I was not prepared to find out this morning that I only have 6 weeks to train for this race and still get in a nice 2 week taper!  Yikes!!!

I also was not too terrible thrilled to discover that the schedule says I should run 20 miles tomorrow morning.

So, tomorrow morning, I’ll be out there early to get those miles in.

I had kinda talked myself into believing that all of my super long and super hot runs were behind me once I finished that Ultra.  Wrong.

Oh well, the nice cool running weather in Iowa was nice while it lasted.
