When #1 daughter (I have #1 daughter and #1 son…very convenient) was little, she was quite and very convinced that confetti was called, “Funtucky.” I’m really not quite sure where she came up with this word, but ever since then, Confetti has been funtucky.
Well, #1 son purchased a “Package” of fireworks for today, the 4th of July. It had lots of fountains, fire crackers…all those kind of regular goodies. It also had my very most favorite thing: Party Poppers.
If you are not familiar with Party Poppers, they are little plastic containers with a string. You pull the string. It goes “Bang” (a very, very small band, btw) and out comes confetti. They’re fun!
#1 daughter and #1 son both loved doing those when they were little. They are harmless, they make a moderate mess and you can do them in the house. No big deal.
Well, I was in the living room this morning when #1 son was unpacking his fireworks and stumbled across this Party Popper. It was the only one in the entire kit. He, knowing how much I love those immediately handed it over without me even asking. Smart kid (he’s almost 25).
Paxton, my faithful, hungry and fraidy cat dog was watching. He saw me eagerly take the Party Popper and had to know just what this thing was!
I let Paxton sniff the Party Popper. He, realizing that it was not something to eat walked away.
As Paxton was walking away, I pulled the string. I was not thinking. The Party Popper went “Bang!” the the funtucky flew! Cool Beans! I love those things!
Funny thing was, Paxton was no-where to be found! He, all 130 pounds of puppy, had vanished! We finally found him. He had squeezed under MFH’s (My Favorite Husband’s) desk. He was hiding. Poor dog.
I should have waited until he was out of the room before I pulled the string. Bad me. Tonight, when we set off the rest of the fireworks, all of the animals will be tucked in for the night. We don’t want them to be more afraid than necessary. Plus, it is only one day out of the year that we do this and it IS fun!
Happy 4th of July!!! Enjoy your celebrations!
