Hoo-Rah

I am going to a “Hoo-Rah” tonight with my sister (I only have one sister, no brothers and I am the eldest.).  This Doo-Dah is being held at Mississippi State University.  It is:

‘DIY: Hypertufa Pots’ workshop http://www.msstate.edu/web/media/announcement.php?id=2104

All I know is that I am supposed to wear clothes that I don’t mind if they get permanently messy and rubber gloves.  Sounds intriguing, doesn’t it?

When I was little, playing in the dirt was frowned upon.  That meant a bath, laundry…it meant cleaning=chores.  Don’t get me wrong!  I had a sandbox in the back yard and I loved playing in it with my dump trucks, etc. but wallowing in the mud?  Nope.  Not much.

When my own children were 4-5(?), very young anyway, we had a terrific rain storm.  I had a circular garden beside our deck.  I had just planted it.  With the rain, it was a gigantic mud puddle.  The kids went out to play.

My first clue as to something was amiss was they were getting along.  That should have been a dead giveaway.  They were quiet.  Any Mom knows that quietness is a HUGE danger signal.  I must have been completely out to lunch that day or just reveling in the little bit of peace and quiet because all of a sudden, they decided that they were done playing and were going to come in.

Fortunately, I was in the kitchen at the time (linoleum floor, thank goodness) when the door flew open and there were my two “darling” children covered from head to toe with MUD!

‘You are NOT coming in the house all covered in mud!” (I probably shouted).

“Buuuuuut, Mooooommmmm!” I am pretty sure was the reply.

“Nope!  Back outdoors.”  Was my firm answer.

We all trudged outdoors as I led them to the garden hose.

Fortunately, it was a warm day.  I turned on the hose then I turned the hose on my “darling” children.

They thought this was the greatest thing ever!  It was a great game!!!  Mom’s spraying us with the garden hose.  Wheeee~!!!

So, we played that game until I had removed all the mud.  The game ran its course.  I went back into the house, retrieved a couple of towels, wrapped them around my “darling” children and together we came back into the house.

That happened, oh, about 20 years ago and they STILL talk about it!  They thought that was the greatest fun they had had in a long, long time.

I was more than happy to oblige!   🙂

Looking forward to playing in the dirt tonight!
