I Have A Groupie

I think I have a Groupie.  Just one.  And no.  I am not “Almost Famous.”

The past two weeks while on my long run, I have met up with this adorable little old man.  He is a cutie!  I would put him to be in his mid to late 80’s.

He drives an older model Ford.  Faded blue or gray.  I’m not sure of the model.  He passes me pretty much in the same area of my run, too.

Last week, when I ran during the downpour, he pulled up next to me and said, “Girlie!  Would you like a ride?”  I assured him that I was doing fine and thanked him for the offer.  He replied, “Keep up what you are doing, Girlie!” And sped off.

I really did not give him any more thought until today.

A little bit earlier in my run (mileage wise), I saw that same car drive by me.  Maybe about 15 minutes later, here it came again!

The window of the car went down and there was that cute little old man again!

“Girlie!  I saw you out here again today.  No rain!  You look like you are hot.  I brought you some cold water.”  Sure enough, he handed me a bottle of very cold water!   Cool Beans!  I was melting and that looked wonderful!

I thanked him again and before he drove away, he said, “Keep up the good work, Girlie!”  And he sped off.

Interesting, that.

I mean, I do run with pepper spray for those, “Just in case” moments but then again, how threatening can an 85 year old man be?  Dunno.  All that I can say is that the water was a life saver!

I will be keeping my eye out for this guy, though.

Today’s run was an incomplete run.  I managed 14 miles by the skin of my teeth.  91 F. 88% humidity.  Very, very hot.  We will see how I do next week.
