Mowing and Poison Ivy

It was mowing day again today.  Right now I have only been mowing once a week but I really need to accelerate that to two times a week.  The grass is growing like crazy!  It was too long this morning, really, and it doesn’t look as nice as it could due to the length of the grass clippings.  I COULD bag my clippings but I am not that motivated, I am afraid.

It was 90F. 62% humidity when I began my mowing today.  Toasty.  I was actually a bit chilly when I began.  I had gotten my hair cut earlier in the day and I swear they had the A/C up as cold as it could go!  Brrrr!!!! So, it felt good to get out into the warm air.

As I started mowing, I would say it took maybe three passes on the property before I began sweating and it never stopped.  I told myself to enjoy being on the mower because tomorrow it was supposed to be in the mid 90’s and I was going to be running in it.  Enjoy the luxury of just sitting.

The plum trees were a bust this year.  MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I did not see one single bloom on them this Spring.  Last year, we had tons of blossoms and lots of fruit on those trees.  As I was mowing around that thicket, I did not see one. single. plum.  I did, however, too late, see the Poison Ivy.  RATS.  I drove right through it.  Bummer, that.  Huh?  I expect I will break out here in a little bit.

The bees were in a good mood today. I think the grouchy hive may have swarmed and gone bye-bye.  Gee, that would make me so sad (please note sarcasm).  That hive as been a pain in the patoot for years!  I think I may throw a farewell party for those bees!  HA!

The chickens were panting and holding their wings out from their sides as I went by.  I was not surprised to see this.  I took a break and went into the house and made them some ice water.  They were very happy to see me come with it!  Those chickens crack me up!

One of my MFP friends asked me how you can burn calories by sitting on a riding mower.  Search me!  All I know is that I weighed two pounds less when I came in from mowing.  I know that it was just water loss from sweating but apparently you get some calories for effort!?   I think someday I will ask the MFP gods how they determine the calories burned for a riding mower.  Good question!

Well, I am starting to itch.  Time to hunt down some Poison Ivy stuff.  Tomorrow, long run is scheduled.  23 miles on tap.  It’s going to be uber hot and humid and I am more than a little bit apprehensive about that run.  Fingers crossed!!!
